Match analysis in football is a scientific method rooted in dance notation systems that enables coaches to make objective decisions by supporting their limited memory and observation capabilities. Because the human eye and brain misinterpret or forget more than 50% of the events occurring during a match, various analysis systems have been developed, ranging from traditional paper-and-pencil notations to modern video and computer technologies. In Turkey, computer-assisted match analysis was first applied at the national team level in 1994 and has since been actively utilized by elite coaches. Match analysis is conducted across three main stages: pre-match (analyzing opponents and own team, tactical planning, and transfer decisions), in-match (real-time data for tactical adjustments and player substitutions), and post-match (performance evaluation within 24 hours and constructive feedback). Throughout this process, technical, tactical, movement, and statistical parameters are examined through audio observation, hand notation, advanced software such as MathBall, Prozone, Catapult, and Sentio, and GPS technologies. Delivering clear, practical, and solution-oriented feedback to players plays a vital role in enhancing team performance, correcting tactical errors, and fostering positive coach-player communication.
