Estetik, diş hekimliğinde fonksiyon ve sağlık kadar kritik bir öneme sahip olup, dijital diş hekimliğindeki teknolojik gelişmeler bu alanda yeni bir dönem başlatmıştır. Bireyin gülüşü yüz estetiğinin, psikolojisinin ve toplumsal imajının temel bir unsurudur. Modern klinisyenler, hastanın beklentilerini doğru analiz etmek ve sanatsal yetenekleriyle birleştirmek adına statik (diş/diş eti) ve dinamik (dudaklar/yumuşak doku) faktörleri, simetriyi, fasiyal ve dental analizleri dikkate alarak multidisipliner bir yaklaşımla tedavi planlamaktadır. Bu süreçte popülerlik kazanan Dijital Gülüş Tasarımı (DSD), iki veya üç boyutlu bilgisayar destekli yazılımlar ve CAD/CAM sistemleri aracılığıyla, klinisyen, hasta ve dental teknisyen arasındaki iletişimi optimize eden güçlü bir araçtır. Geleneksel yöntemlerin aksine DSD; diagnoz, tedavi planlaması ve sonuç restorasyonların önizlemesini ağız içi müdahale olmadan sunarak zamandan, materyalden ve maliyetten tasarruf sağlar. Süreç, hastanın yüksek çözünürlüklü statik fotoğraf ve dinamik video kayıtlarının alınması, referans çizgilerinin çizilmesi, kalibrasyon ve kontur analizleri aşamalarını içerir. Photoshop, Keynote gibi genel veya Smile Designer Pro ve DSD App gibi özel yazılımlar kullanılarak tasarlanan estetik gülüş, hastanın onayıyla wax-up modellerine veya üç boyutlu direkt restorasyonlara dönüştürülerek tahmin edilebilir ve tutarlı sonuçlar üretilmesini sağlar.

Esthetics has become as critical as function and health in dentistry, with technological advancements in digital dentistry initiating a new era in this field. An individual's smile is a fundamental element of facial esthetics, psychology, and social image. Modern clinicians plan treatments through a multidisciplinary approach by evaluating static (teeth/gingiva) and dynamic (lips/soft tissue) factors, symmetry, and facial and dental analyses to accurately understand patient expectations and integrate them with artistic skills. Digital Smile Design (DSD), which has gained popularity in this process, is a powerful tool that optimizes communication among the clinician, patient, and dental technician through two- or three-dimensional computer-aided software and CAD/CAM systems. Unlike conventional methods, DSD offers diagnosis, treatment planning, and previsualization of final restorations without intraoral intervention, thereby saving time, materials, and costs. The process involves acquiring the patient's high-resolution static photographs and dynamic video records, drawing reference lines, and performing calibration and contour analyses. The esthetic smile designed using general software like Photoshop and Keynote or specialized software like Smile Designer Pro and DSD App is converted into wax-up models or three-dimensional direct restorations upon the patient's approval, ensuring the generation of predictable and consistent results.
