Lenfoid Sistem Histolojisi
The lymphoid system is the primary defense structure that protects the body against pathogens, consisting of lymphocyte-dense cells, tissues, and organs. While the fetal liver, bone marrow, and thymus constitute the primary lymphoid organs; the spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (MALT) form the secondary lymphoid organs. The thymus serves as a centralized educational hub for T cell proliferation, maturation, and selection, where the blood-thymus barrier functions to isolate developing T cells from systemic antigens. Lymph nodes, strategically concentrated in the inguinal and axillary regions, play a critical role in the filtration and phagocytosis of foreign pathogens. The spleen, identified as the largest secondary lymphoid organ, lacks cortex and medulla differentiation; it filters damaged erythrocytes via its red pulp and coordinates immunological responses against systemic antigens through its white pulp. Lastly, the tonsils construct the Waldeyer’s ring at the entrances of the respiratory and digestive tracts to form an initial line of immune defense. Together, these specialized compartments facilitate a highly coordinated circulation necessary for mounting antigen-specific adaptive immunity.
