The control of infectious diseases remains critical for promoting public health due to factors like globalization, population growth, uncontrolled migration, and microbial adaptation. Epidemiology, which examines the relationships within the infection chain—agent, transmission route, and host—and surveillance systems that systematically collect and analyze data, serve as foundational tools for the early detection of outbreaks. Within this framework, public health nurses play a pivotal role by implementing primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies to safeguard individuals, families, and communities. Primary prevention encompasses public health education, immunization programs, environmental sanitation, and specific interventions against airborne, waterborne, foodborne, sexual, or bloodborne transmissions. Secondary prevention focuses closely on screening programs and early diagnosis, whereas tertiary prevention involves managing long-term complications and rehabilitation efforts. Ultimately, the successful control and prevention of infectious diseases rely on comprehensive education, continuous monitoring, and effective preventive practices managed under the dedicated leadership of public health nurses.
