Bibliometric Analysis of Labiaplasty Publications with Science Mapping Method or Bibliometric Analysis of Labiaplasty
Özet
This study provides a comprehensive bibliometric analysis and science mapping of labiaplasty research published between 1984 and 2021, analyzing 341 articles retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Utilizing the open-source R-based Bibliometrix software, the research evaluates annual scientific production, country statistics, influential authors, prominent journals, and intellectual structures through keyword and citation analyses. The findings indicate a significant surge in annual publications after 2010, peaking in 2020 with 40 articles, which reflects an escalating medical and aesthetic demand globally. Geographically, the United States leads scientific production with 124 total publications, followed closely by Australia, France, the United Kingdom, China, and Turkey. Author-level insights highlight Goodman MP as the most cited researcher (341 citations) and Sharp G as the most prolific author with 13 articles. Journal metrics reveal that the Aesthetic Surgery Journal published the most articles (11.7%), while Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery achieved the highest citation impact (807 citations). Keyword and thematic evolution analyses demonstrate a transition from clinical terms like "hypertrophy" in the 2010s to broader social and critical subjects today, including "female genital mutilation," reflecting a growing academic effort to address socio-cultural aspects of female genital surgery.
