This study examines the role and importance of music in combating a sedentary lifestyle, which is a global issue, and in enhancing sports performance. Nowadays, individuals moving away from physical activity due to various excuses such as technological tools and lack of time brings about serious health problems. This situation has led coaches, strength conditioning specialists, and sports scientists to search for new methods to make individuals physically active, and listening to music has emerged as one of these effective solutions. Within the scope of the research, 30 academic studies published up to July 2022 in Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science electronic databases were compiled and analyzed. The results obtained from the study demonstrate that individuals listening to fast-tempo and motivational music suited to their personal preferences creates a sense of movement, directly encouraging sports participation and physical activity. Furthermore, the use of music positively affects the psychological state of individuals, regulates the rating of perceived exertion, increases exercise enjoyment, and strengthens focus and self-confidence. Music, which also provides positive developments in aerobic and anaerobic performance parameters, makes exercising more enjoyable, thereby facilitating sedentary individuals' participation in active life. In conclusion, music functions as an ergogenic tool that increases sports encouragement and supports athletic success. Future research conducted with different music genres and larger participant groups is expected to make significant contributions to the literature.
