Childhood sexual abuse is a global social problem with no universal definition, and its legal consequences, terminology, and scope vary worldwide. According to World Health Organization data, one out of every five women and one out of every 13 men are exposed to this abuse during childhood. Contrary to common belief, it is not a rare occurrence perpetrated only by strangers in poor areas but can be seen across all socioeconomic levels and cultures. The fact that perpetrators are mostly individuals known to the child, combined with victims' inability to disclose due to fear, shame, or domestic pressure, causes many cases to remain hidden. This process leads to severe behavioral and psychological disorders in children, such as traumatic sexualization, stigmatization, betrayal, and powerlessness. Educating society, families, and children is of critical importance in preventing child abuse. Pediatric nurses, who act as continuous caregivers, play a key role in early intervention programs, body safety education, providing child-friendly environments during the detection phase, and forensic medical examination processes. Child Monitoring Centers (ÇİM) established in Turkey also aim to minimize the secondary victimization of the child by conducting forensic and medical procedures in a single session.
