Environmental diseases are multi-factorial conditions that arise from human exposure to environmental toxins, pathogens, radiation, and chemicals in living and working spaces, excluding rare genetic disorders. According to the World Health Organization, more than 12 million people die annually due to unhealthy environments, accounting for 24% of the global disease burden. Air pollution, particularly particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), stands as the primary environmental risk factor, causing fatal respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals, heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, lead, mercury), and pesticides disrupt hormonal balance, leading to cancer, neurological damage, and reproductive abnormalities. Biological agents, including bacteria, viruses, and toxic molds, trigger a wide range of illnesses from minor allergic reactions to life-threatening infections like COVID-19 and anthrax. Occupational physical risk factors also severely impact health; excessive noise induces permanent hearing loss and stress, continuous vibration causes Raynaud's syndrome and musculoskeletal disorders, and thermal stress destabilizes bodily systems, leading to dehydration or heat stroke. Furthermore, exposure to solar ultraviolet radiation causes skin cancers, while radon gas significantly elevates the risk of lung cancer.
