Sarsılmış Bebek Sendromu
Özet
Demir eksikliği, dünya genelinde hala önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunu olarak devam etmektedir. Bütün yaş gruplarını etkilesede özellikle hızlı büyüme döneminde olmaları nedeniyle demir ihtiyaçları artan çocuklar ve gençler risk altındadır. Gelişmekte olan ülkelerde, düşük gelirli ailelerin yaşadığı bölgelerde ve yetersiz beslenme koşulları olan toplumlarda daha yaygın görülmektedir. Bu durum, çocukların büyüme ve gelişimini olumsuz etkilemekte ve uzun vadeli sağlık sorunlarına neden olabilmektedir. Demir eksikliğinin; yorgunluk, halsizlik, bağışıklık sisteminde zayıflık, öğrenme bozuklukları gibi birçok olumsuz etkisi olsada özellikle yaşamın erken dönemlerinde kalıcı nörogelişimsel bozukluklara sebep olması endişe vericidir. Bu ise demir eksikliğinin tedavisinden ziyade önlenmesinin önemine dikkat çekmektedir. Bunun için toplumsal farkındalığın artırılması, beslenme eğitimi ve risk altındaki gruplara demir takviyesinde bulunmak bu sık görülen mikrobesin eksikliğini önlemede faydalı olacaktır.
