Cancer is a leading cause of premature mortality worldwide, yet research indicates that at least half of all cases are preventable. Implementing protective approaches and fostering public awareness are critical components in mitigating cancer development and related deaths. Minimizing modifiable risk factors—such as tobacco and alcohol consumption, obesity, physical inactivity, poor dietary habits, improper cooking techniques, ionizing radiation, radon gas, environmental pollution, and occupational exposures—significantly lowers cancer risks. Additionally, breastfeeding offers a protective effect for women, while vaccinations against infections like Hepatitis B and HPV serve as primary preventive measures. Early detection directly enhances the efficacy and success of cancer treatments. Accordingly, community-based screening programs for breast, cervical, colorectal, and prostate cancers are provided free of charge through KETEM centers. Advancing health literacy and encouraging active participation in these screening protocols represent the most effective strategies to alleviate the global cancer burden.
