Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) represent a major global public health challenge, transmitted via unprotected sexual contact, infected blood and blood products, or from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. Caused by a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, these infections are frequently asymptomatic but can lead to severe long-term complications such as infertility, cancer, and stillbirth if left untreated. Common STIs include candidiasis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, genital herpes, and HIV/AIDS. The primary strategies for prevention include mutual monogamy, understanding sexual partner histories, and the consistent and correct use of condoms throughout sexual activity. Additionally, immunization against highly prevalent viral pathogens like HPV and Hepatitis B, male circumcision, and the use of vaginal diaphragms significantly decrease transmission rates. Enhancing public awareness, implementing routine screening for high-risk populations, and ensuring early clinical diagnosis are absolutely vital to controlling the spread of STIs.
